30th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists

The European Association of Archaeologists will hold its Annual Meeting from 28 to 31 August 2024, at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and online.

The event motto – “Persisting with change,” proposes to reflect about a crucial argument for archaeology, history and anthropology: in the passing of time, persistence and change act together and combine themselves variously. It points to the processes of endurance, continuity, renewal, as well as resilience, resistance, residuality.

The themes of this 30th Annual Meeting will be:

  1. The Material Record: Current Trends and Future Directions
  2. Archaeological Sciences, Humanities and the Digital era: Bridging the Gaps
  3. The Life of Archaeological Heritage in Society
  4. Persisting with Change: Theory and Archaeological Scrutiny
  5. All Roads Lead to Rome: Multiscalar Interactions
  6. The Mediterranean from Within
  7. Archaeology of Sustainability through World Crises, Climate Change, Conflicts and War

A number of excursions will also be organised from 26 August to 1 September, and have to be booked separately in the event website.

The event is organised by the Department of Ancient World Studies of Sapienza University of Rome, in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region, and with the support of the public Universities of Rome and Latium, National Research Council, Foreign Academies and Professional Organisations.

Registration for the Annual Meeting is compulsory, and available on the event website. To participate in the event, you must be – or become – a (2024) EAA Member.
